Take a few minutes to childproof your bathroom - one of the most dangerous rooms in the house. Of course, there's no substitute for supervision and you should review your childproofing measures every six months to make sure your child hasn't outgrown or outsmarted them!
Materials: safety latches for cupboards, door locks, safety gates, hook and eye latches Tools You'll Need: 30-pc. toolkit
Barbara's Tips:
Nothing's worse than being on the wrong side of a locked door from your child. Remove lower locks on bathroom doors to prevent accidental locking. A hook and eye latch at adult level can ensure bathroom privacy for grown-ups.

Step 1: Determine the Hazards
Each year, tens of thousands of children are injured in bathroom accidents. Slippery floors, puddles of water, medicine cabinets, bathtub falls and electrical accidents are all bathroom perils. Never allow a young child to be in a bathroom unattended, and follow the checklist below to make your bathroom a safer place. Step 2: Make it Safe
- Set water heaters to 120 degrees Fahrenheit or below install anti-scalding devices on faucets and showerheads. - Keep toilet seat cover closed install a lid lock for extra safety. - Install safety latches on lower cupboards keep medications, toiletries and cleaning products out of reach. - Store medications in original containers with childproof tops. - Keep sharp objects (razors, scissors, clippers) out of reach. Step 3: Make it Safe, cont.
- Have non-skid mats or stickers in the bathtub and use a rubber guard over the bathtub faucet. - Use a non-skid bathmat on the floor next to the tub to prevent slips. - Install GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupters) on all outlets. - Keep electrical devices (curling irons, blow dryers, electric shavers) unplugged and out of reach. Never plug anything in near the bathtub.
