How to Build a Lazy Susan Recommended Skill Level:

Overview:

This project will show you how to build a lazy susan. Keep your pantry and kitchen cabinets organized with an easy-to-build Lazy Susan.

Materials:

Lazy Susan bearing, edge-glued round pine board, round head screws, self-adhesive felt or rubber matting, paint or stain, clear varnish

Tools You'll Need:

power-lite cordless drill, 6-in-1 interchangeable screwdriver, 10ft. or 25ft. tape measure

Barbara's Tips:

Apply the self-adhesive felt or rubber to the bottom of the bearing to prevent scratching your table or shelves.

  Step 1: Cut the Wood
If you're cutting the wood for the round top, don't forget to wear your safety glasses. If you are purchasing a precut piece of wood, make sure the edges are finished.

Step 2: Make it Pretty
Stain or paint the round board and finish with a clear coat of varnish for easy clean-ups.

Step 3: Lay it Out
Lay the board face down on your worktable and place the Lazy Susan bearing top down in the center of the board. The top of the bearing is the side with the largest diameter center hole.

Step 4: Line it Up
Align the largest hole in the bottom of the bearing (the side facing you) with one of the medium sized holes in the top (the size facing the wood). The medium sized holes in the bottom of the bearing should line up over the small holes in the top.

Step 5: Lock it Down
Pre-drill holes for the round head screws. Rotate the largest hole over each small hole to install the screws. When all the screws are installed, give your new kitchen helper a spin. There's nothing lazy about it. You did it yourself!
