How to Build a Tree Swing Recommended Skill Level:

Overview:

This project will show you how to build a tree swing. A tree swing can provide hours of fun and activity to children, and adults alike.

Materials:

20" of 2" x 10" wood board, enough 100lb nylon rope to reach branch 2 times and sand paper

Tools You'll Need:

4.8v rechargeable cordless screwdriver and grip it gloves

Before You Begin:

Try to pick a location with soft grass or dirt. Look for partially buried rocks and roots that may be a hazard.

Barbara's Tips:

Always be careful when swinging!

  Step 1: Screw
Screw 4 holes, one at each corner of wood board (approximately 1” from board side).

Step 2: Throw
Throw the length of the rope over strong, straight tree branch. Tie as triple slip knot around rope and slide not to branch. Cut rope approximately 36" above ground. Do this two times and try to make the rope spaced about 20" on branch. Pull on rope to ensure proper installation.

Step 3: Cut
Cut and install 2 pieces of rope at each side of bench seat approximately 36" each piece. This rope will be tied under bench at all 4 corners. Use a double knot to ensure proper installation. Each side of bench will have a triangle of rope approximately 12" high. Using the rope hanging from the branch above, tie a triple knot at the top of each bench rope triangle.

Step 4: Hold on Tight
Sand paper all sides and edges smooth to prevent wood splinters. Tighten knots on rope periodically to prevent further untying and injury.
