How to Make an Accessories Hanger Recommended Skill Level:

Overview:

This project will show you how to make an accessories hanger. An accessories hanger can be extremely helpful in keeping those treasured trinkets safe and organized. You can add as much of your own style to this piece as you want.

Materials:

Pre-cut wood, picture hanger, mini glue gun, picture hooks, hooks/pull knobs, screws, nails, glue sticks and paint

Tools You'll Need:

screwdriver, 12ft. or 16ft. tape measure and 12oz. hammer

Before You Begin:

Determine and measure what size hanger you wish to make take the measurements into any hardware store and have them pre-cut the piece of wood for you. Using these same measurements, purchase your fabric or material if you are going to cover the wood, make sure to add extra 1-2 inches on each side for folding purposes.

Barbara's Tips:

Get creative and make a vertical or horizontal accessories hanger according to what you want to hang on it. Paint, varnish or cover it with decorative fabric or leather. And don't limit yourself to using plain hooks hobby stores carry a variety of wooden knobs and pull handles in a variety of sizes and shapes.

  Step 1: Paint It
Take your piece of wood and paint it. Make sure to let it dry completely before continuing onto next steps.

Step 2: Wrap Fabric
If you are going to cover the hanger with fabric or other material, wrap the fabric around the piece of wood and, staple or glue it carefully in place to the backside of your hanger. Make sure to cut excess fabric before final gluing.

Step 3: Hooks or Knobs
Now decide how many hooks or knobs you want on your hanger, measure the spaces in between each hook carefully with your tape measure and mark the spots with a pencil.

Step 4: Screw Them In
With your hammer and nail, punch a starter hole on the spots you marked and where the hooks or pull knobs will be screwed in. Screw in the hooks or pull knobs lightly.

Step 5: Start Organizing
Attach the picture hanger to the upper backside of the accessories hanger with small screws. Place the picture hook on the wall and finally mount your accessories hanger on the wall. Now you can start organizing your stuff on a hanger YOU made!
