Barbara's Tips:

Don't get overwhelmed. If the job is too big to tackle in one session, spread it out over a few weekends.

  Step 1: Hang your Bikes
Once you have purchased your bike hooks from your local home center find a location in your garage to hang your hooks keeping in mind leaving access for your car(s) and a clean route to the house entrance. Use your stud finder to locate your ceiling joists and pre-screw a hole into the joist. The hole should be 1/2" diameter of the thread on the hook. You can now hand screw the hook into your joist and are ready to hang your bikes. Use your tape measure and find your next joist which is 16" away in either direction, and repeat process for additional hooks.

Step 2: Hang your Tools
You can purchase a tool hanging rack which usually has screw holes drilled in them and are located to fall out on your wall studs (every 16"). Locate an area for the rack and pick a height that allows the tools to hang without touching the floor. Use your stud finder to locate your wall studs and simply use your power screwdriver and 3" wood screws and secure the first hole on the rack to the wall. Use your level on the bottom of the rack and secure the other side of the rack.

Step 3: Hang your Tools, cont.
You can also hang your tools using nails. Locate your wall studs and hammer in a nail on a 45 degree angle with the head of the nail aiming up. If your tool does not have a handle or a hole in the pole, repeat process 3/4" away. You can now hang your tool in between the nails. Repeat process for additional tools.

Step 4: Hang your Hoses and Extension Cords
Find your wall studs and hammer in a nail on a 45 degree angle. Use a bungee cord and hook one end on the nail, pass the other end through your rolled up cord or hose and hook that end on the nail.
