Overview:
This project will show you how to repair damaged wood trim. Damaged, decayed or worn woodwork can make your home look drab and uncared for. Restoring and repairing the exterior wood trim is an easy way to take your home's appearance from shabby to showcase.
Materials:
paint, primer, rags, acetone, wood filler, sandpaper, 2" paint brush, work gloves
Tools You'll Need:
6-in-1 putty knife
Before You Begin:
Take a pair of binoculars and give the exterior of your house the once-over. Identify any areas that look damaged, peeling or rotting. Note any large areas that may have to be replaced, instead of repaired.

Step 1: Prep Your Work Area
Use a wood chisel to chip away any splintered, soft or unsound pieces of board. Sand or scrape away any paint around the area to e repaired. Clean the area with acetone.
Step 2: Repair and Refinish
Mix the wood filler according to the manufacturer's instructions. Use a putty knife to apply the filler to the area you are repairing. Fill holes completely and spread the filler in a light layer on the bare wood surrounding the repair area.
Step 3: Real Curb Appeal
Once the filler has cured, lightly sand the area with medium grit so that it is level with the surrounding surface. Now you're ready to prime and paint. You did it yourself!
