Overview:
This project will show you how to replace cabinet handles and knobs. You'll be surprised at how fresh your kitchen will look with just this simple update.
Tools You'll Need: 6-in-1 interchangeable screwdriver, 6" slip joint pliers Before You Begin: Count the number of handles or knobs that need replacing. Remove one knob and screw to bring with you when you shop for replacements. Most cabinet door handles and one or two fine-threaded screws secure drawer knobs. Choose replacements that are secured with the same number of screws and that the new screws are the same length and diameter as the old ones. Make sure the new knobs have a larger diameter flange (the portion of the knob that rests on the surface of the wood) than the old ones. The larger knob will cover any scratches, indentations or marks left on the face of the doors or cabinets.
Barbara's Tips:
When removing and retightening screws always remember that a clockwise turn will tighten a screw and a counterclockwise turn will loosen it. If you forget just remember this catchy little phrase: Righty tighty, Lefty loosey.

Step 1: Off With the Old
Using a screwdriver that matches the screw head (flat or Phillips), remove the old screw and knob from each door or drawer. If the screw is stripped and the screwdriver is not working to remove it, use your pliers to firmly hold the outer edge of the screw head motionless and twist the knob (counterclockwise) to remove it. Step 2: On With the New
Insert the new screws through the old holes and hold them tight against the back of the door or drawer with your thumb. Twist the new knob (clockwise) on to the screw until it rests against the face of the door or drawer. Then hold the knob and tighten the screw with the screwdriver.
