Overview:
This project will show you how to thaw a frozen pipe. Avoid an inconvenient plumbing situation – and avoid flooding disasters and water damage by following these simple solutions for thawing pipes before they burst.
Before You Begin: Open the faucet nearest the pipe, if possible. Do not force it if it is frozen as well.
Barbara's Tips:
I said it before, but it bears repeating: If there is standing water anywhere in the vicinity of the frozen pipe, Do NOT attempt to use any of the electrical appliances to thaw the pipe.

Step 1: A Warm Bath
Wrap the towel around the frozen pipe and secure it with duct tape. Carefully, pour warm water over the towel. Repeat until the frozen water in the pipe thaws and begins to run through the faucet. Step 2: Turn Up the Heat
If there is no standing water near the pipe, you can use any number of small electrical devices to generate enough warmth to thaw the frozen water in the pipe. Wrap the pipe in a heating pad, place a heat lamp or a small electric heater next to the pipe, or use a handheld hair dryer to create heat. Now go buy yourself a nice warm sweater with the money you saved by not having to call a plumber! You did it yourself!
